Dear Ms. Lelyveld:

In digital age, technology has completely changed the way we operate in our daily lives, and consequently must alter the way we educate our children. I would like to showcase an online educational organization based in Florida that recently was introduced to the California education system. I hope you will consider writing a story about this school that is eager to gain students and schools alike to learn, utilizing its award-winning curriculum. This organization is determined to transform education worldwide—one student at a time.

Florida Virtual School was founded in 1997 and quickly became the country’s first statewide, Internet-based public high school. In 2000, FLVS was established as an independent educational entity by the Florida legislature. Recognized as its own district within the state, the school provides online instruction to Florida and California K-12 students. Florida Virtual School aims to deliver a high quality, technology-based education that provides the skills and knowledge students need for success national and globally.

As a nationally recognized e-Learning model and recipient of numerous awards, FLVS was selected by Governor of Florida, Rick Scott as the educational provider for families enrolled in schools devastated by hurricane Maria in Florida and Puerto Rico. Florida Virtual School has the ability to adapt to the needs of students and educators in a time of increasing need as educational funding sources diminish. We hope to showcase our abilities and amazing curriculum to California schools and students.

Included is a media kit comprised of two news releases, a feature article and a video script for you to review and utilize as you desire.

Please let me know if you would like to discuss the possibility of an interview. I believe the story of FLVS is one that will spark interest for your readership. In the meantime, you are welcome to contact me at scleugh@uoregon.edu or by phone at (714) 916-4625 with questions or concerns.
